Aurora Rise started out as a weekend-long benefit event supported heavily by the comic book and entertainment industry. Since then, it’s grown into so much more.
Our initial fund-raising weekend of August 25-26 was intended to be a one-time deal, but it also brought overwhelming results we could have never imagined. Over $20,000 was raised in two days! Shortly thereafter, it came to light that there are victims from this tragedy who are still waiting for relief. And it became apparent we needed to do more.
Fact is, there are victims of the theater shooting who still need surgery, who still need to see doctors, who can’t afford their medical bills, or who have taken a financial hit from lost wages. There are victims who have no medical insurance that haven’t been able to get the treatment they need. And while it’s true that some medical providers have written off victims’ bills, there are more that are still owed. While disbursement of victim relief funds is being discussed by various powers that be, bills are piling up and people need help.
We feel that as long as innocent people are still hurting, we are going to continue to raise money and help as many as we can
